Vinyl Lettering

Cut vinyl lettering for business names, contact details, opening hours, and text signage on windows, doors, walls, and vehicles. Clean letters, no background, no sticker feel.

Nobody really thinks about the lettering on a shop window or office door. And that's actually the point. When vinyl lettering Auckland businesses use is done right, cut vinyl text just looks like it belongs. No background showing, no visible edges, no sticker vibe. Just clean letters sitting flush against glass, paint, or whatever surface they're on. Our Auckland vinyl signage specialists have been producing vinyl lettering for Auckland businesses for years, and the results show on shopfronts, vehicles, and offices right across the region.

What is Vinyl Lettering?

Vinyl lettering is signage stripped back to its purest form. Clean text that communicates without any fuss. Because there's no background material visible, cut vinyl letters merge with whatever surface they're applied to, giving an elegant, put-together look. Business names on windows, qualifications on doors, contact details on vehicles, quotes on feature walls. It suits any situation where the text carries the message. And because the colour runs through the material (not just printed on top), it stays consistent for years. For full storefront signage packages, vinyl lettering pairs well with printed window graphics to round out your street presence.

Our vinyl lettering service covers business name lettering, window text, door lettering, vehicle lettering, wall text, directional signage, opening hours, contact details, and regulatory text. For unusual projects, our made-to-order vinyl service picks up the non-standard stuff. We carry a deep font library, from clean sans-serifs to decorative scripts, with options for standard cut vinyl, metallic finishes, reflective vinyl, and frosted effects.

Auckland businesses from retail shopfronts to professional offices count on Falcon Signs for vinyl lettering that reads clearly and keeps looking sharp for years.

Our Process

Our Vinyl Lettering Process

01

Text Confirmation

We lock down exact wording, check spelling twice, and confirm any specific requirements. You'd be surprised how many sign jobs go sideways because somebody assumed the spelling was right.

02

Font Selection

Font choice matters more than people expect. We help pick typefaces that match your brand feel and actually work at the size you need.

03

Sizing and Layout

How big do the letters need to be for where they're going? We calculate that based on viewing distance, available space, and what looks proportional.

04

Colour Matching

We match vinyl to your brand colours, or recommend options that give the best contrast against your particular surface.

05

Production

Letters get precision-cut from quality vinyl, then weeded to remove all the excess material around each character. What's left is clean individual letterforms.

06

Transfer Preparation

Transfer tape goes over the top to hold exact spacing and alignment. This is what makes the difference between straight lettering and lettering that drifts.

07

Installation or Delivery

We install on site (we're out doing this most weeks anyway) or supply the lettering ready for self-application with positioning guides and instructions.

Why Choose Us

Why Choose Falcon Signs for Vinyl Lettering?

No Visible Background

Cut vinyl letters have nothing behind them. They bond directly to the surface, which gives a look that printed sticker-style signs simply can't match.

Extensive Font Range

Hundreds of fonts to choose from. Clean modern styles, traditional serif faces, decorative scripts. Your lettering matches your brand, not a default typeface.

Colour That Lasts

Solid-coloured vinyl runs the same colour all the way through the material. It doesn't fade the way inkjet-printed graphics tend to.

Precision Cutting

Computer-controlled cutting means perfect letterforms. Even fiddly serif fonts and flowing scripts come out sharp.

Built to Last

Outdoor-grade vinyl holds up for years on exterior applications. Rain, sun, car washes, regular cleaning. It keeps looking the same.

Goes on Almost Anything

Glass, painted surfaces, vehicle panels, sign boards, metal, plastic. If it's smooth, vinyl lettering sticks to it.

Frequently Asked Questions - Vinyl Lettering

We stock a big range of standard colours including black, white, primary colours, and the usual business colours. For brand-specific needs, there are specialty options too: metallics, fluorescents, and custom-matched shades. Pantone matching is available if you need precise brand consistency.

It changes with viewing distance and font weight. Close-range reading at 1-2 metres? 20-25mm works. Shopfront visibility from across a street? You're looking at 100mm or more. Bold, clean fonts stay readable at smaller sizes. Thin scripts and decorative faces need to go bigger. We'll tell you what's realistic for your situation.

5-7 years outdoors is typical for good-grade vinyl with proper installation. Factors that shift that number include UV exposure (north-facing in Auckland cops the most), how well the surface was prepped, and general environmental conditions. Sheltered locations obviously last longer than fully exposed ones.

Vinyl sticks best to smooth, non-porous surfaces. Light texture might work with conformable vinyl, but heavily textured brick, stucco, or rough timber? Not really. The vinyl just won't adhere properly to the low spots between the texture. We can suggest alternative signage for those situations.

Standard (calendered) vinyl is the more affordable option and works well on flat surfaces for medium-term applications. Cast vinyl is thinner, more flexible, and longer-lasting. It's what we use for curved surfaces, vehicles, and anything that needs to look good for the long haul. Cast also holds its colour better over time.

Clean, dry, no dust, no grease, no wax. For glass, clean with window cleaner then wipe down with isopropyl alcohol. Painted surfaces need to be clean and fully cured. Avoid applying in extreme cold, extreme heat, or high humidity. Prep sounds tedious but it's genuinely the biggest factor in how long the lettering stays put.

On glass and automotive paint, yes. You heat the old vinyl and peel it slowly, then clean off any adhesive residue. Straightforward enough on recent vinyl. Really old or sun-damaged vinyl can be more stubborn, sometimes you need a bit of patience and a good adhesive remover. But the underlying surface comes through fine in the vast majority of cases.
